Many businesses nowadays make such sustainable strategies where they can use environmentally friendly packaging. So, how can you identify which packaging suits your business and the environment?
It can be complicated to track the growing number of eco-friendly packaging products in the market. Not all the packaging products are produced equally, and many environmental terminologies are swapped.
Compostable packaging is the most popular and demanding packaging around the world. Compostable packaging exporter are focusing on the current market demand intensively.
How is Compostable Defined?
Compostable products are made from natural resources such as sugar, wood fibers, or starch. When it is composted through the natural microorganism action, it will decompose completely without the production of toxic waste.
The point is to note that not all of the packaging products labeled as biodegradable will be compostable.
There is a difference between industrially compostable and home compostable; therefore, it is necessary to know about your packaging.
Industrially compostable
Industrially compostable materials must meet the EU standard requirements to be classified. These requirements will specify a particular environment where the packaging will break down, like much hotter 58-degree centigrade temperatures. So, industrially composting must be done in a structured and organized facility. Eventually, that means the end users might not be able to compost it at home so that the product can end up in landfills and regular waste streams. It doesn’t seem eco-friendly as it first looks.
Home compostable
If packaging material is labeled as home compostable, that means it will be able to break down in circumstances that are created in a home compost. That includes 90 percent of the materials or resources breaking down in 12 months at a temperature of 20 to 30 degrees centigrade.
Is It Possible to Recycle Composting Packaging?
It all depends upon the material of your packaging and your recycling services’ local authority. One of the most commonly used packaging products is cardboard. It is both recyclable and compostable. On the other hand, some compostable packaging products, such as bioplastic, which is made from sugar or starch, cannot be recycled because they can pollute the conventional plastic recycling streams.
